About two weeks ago I wrote about Netflix and Blockbuster for my midterm paper. After talking about their pros and cons and possible market gain against each other, my last part was dedicated to discuss their concern about a new threat: the marriage of Amazonunbox and TiVo. This joint-work could shift the market away from both Netflix and Blockbuster. No matter how great their technology for movie download will be, Amazonunbox-TiVo sounds better for me. Their business model looks more interesting as the purchased movies on Amazon will be stored on TiVo box and could be watched on full screen TV. Service fee may not be a strong vote to compare them altogether because they all charge a flat fee for their service, which won’t be much different from each other except for a few cents I think.
While working on that last part, I was thinking to throw Joost into to make it more interesting with 4-way competition. However, I decided not to mention Joost as I didn’t have much resource to talk about it. Basically what I’ve learned from other sources, Joost is a new service to watch high-quality and full-screen TV shows on computers. Most importantly, it’s free and it’s carrying community feature into its service such as user interactions. I haven’t found anywhere talking about whether Joost has movies to watch or not. Let’s see until it’s released. In the mean time, here’s Joost’s commercial
